Publicly Funded Services
Family physicians, through education and residency training, possess distinct attitudes, skills, and knowledge which qualify them to provide continuing and comprehensive medical care, health maintenance and preventive services to each member of the family regardless of gender, age, or type of problem, be it biological, behavioral, or social. Their expertise includes knowledge of their patients and families in the context of their communities, and their ability to use the patient-centered clinical method
effectively within a relationship of trust.
Prenatal Care

Routine prenatal care (also known as antenatal care) is regular, standardized care that helps to identify and treat complications and promote health and wellness during pregnancy. Ontario physicians use the standardized Ontario Perinatal Record (OPR) forms to guide and record prenatal care. The OPR is also a communication tool that documents the course of pregnancy and identifies risk areas and care plans in a standardized format.

Well Baby & Well Child Visits

When you take your child to a well-child visit, your child's health care provider will ask about your child’s eating habits, sleep habits,
developmental milestones, language milestones, and social and emotional issues. The Doctor will do a physical examination,
check weight, height and their head circumference. They will also answer any questions you may have and administer recommended vaccines during the visit. After the age 6, the time between well child visits lengthens in most cases.
More information can be found here.
Periodic Personal Health Visits

At a periodic personal health visit the Doctor will check your vitals, take a medical history and do a visual exam of the entire body. For women, pap tests (if you are due) and a breast exam (if you have concerns or reason) will be done. For men, if warranted, a penis, testicle, and prostate exam can be done. Age plays a major factor in the type of exam given during these visits. Lab work or diagnostic imaging may also be ordered if it is called for and/or requested.
There is evidence that an annual physical examination is ineffective in finding hidden disease in healthy people. Based on the evidence the annual physical examination has been replaced by the personal health visit for patients with no apparent medical problems.
